They are proven to drive foot traffic, drive online traffic, increase brand recall, increase leads, increase conversions, and grow sales.

Custom print brochures are multi-purpose. They can be used in many ways including:

  • direct mail campaigns
  • trade shows and conferences
  • in-store displays
  • by salespeople on the road or in brick-and-mortar stores
  • as bounceback offers inside order packages
  • at kiosks in shopping centers or at events
  • to drive traffic to websites, ecommerce stores, and social media channels

Brochures continue to be widely used by all types of B2B and B2C businesses, organizations, governments, churches, event organizers, charities, and non-profits.

Compelling Brochure Marketing Statistics

Here are several statistics that highlight the effectiveness of print brochures as used in various industries.

Brochures have a 79% retention rate, meaning recipients keep it or pass it along (Data & Marketing Association).

Up to 48% of people who receive a brochure go to the store for more information or to make a purchase.

90% of direct mail gets opened, compared to only 20-30% of emails (Data & Marketing Association).

Direct mail recipients purchase 28% more items and spend 28% more money than people who don’t get that same piece of direct mail (USPS).

61% of visitors planned to buy tickets or merchandise they learned about through a brochure. (Bentley University CMT 2018 Visitor Survey).

After exposure to educational brochures about exercise during pregnancy, survey scores increased significantly. A survey assessing knowledge increased from 65.3% pre-exposure to 81.3% post-exposure. The increased scores were retained 2 weeks later, with no significant decrease. (Educational Brochures Influence Beliefs and Knowledge Regarding Exercise during Pregnancy: A Pilot Study. International Journal of Exercise Science, 12(3), 581-589, (2019).)

Printed brochures offer a physical connection between your business and potential customers in a way that digital methods can’t.

Types of Brochures Printed by Clear Print

The word “brochure” is often used to describe a wide range of printed material available in many sizes and shapes.

Flyers, sell sheets, leave-behinds, pamphlets, and leaflets are terms that are used interchangeably for the term brochure. These are typically single sheets, usually 8-1/2 x 11 size and often printed on glossy book or cover stock.

For example, a common brochure size is 8-1/2 x 11 and can fold down to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 or letter-fold to 3-5/8 x 8-1/2. However, as you’ll see below, there are virtually no limits to the sizes, shapes, designs, and textures that can be had with print brochures.

Multi-page booklets or pamphlets are sometimes referred to as “brochures” as well. If the page count is eight or more, it is usually saddle stitched (stapled on the spine).

Types of Paper Used for Custom Print Brochures

Brochures can be printed on any type of paper, including:

  • Glossy or Matte Coated
  • Uncoated
  • Textured
  • Colored
  • Specialty stock

Types of Brochure Printing and Print Finishes

Brochures can be printed in 1-color, 2-color or full-color formats. Depending on the quantity we’ll use digital printing (for small quantities) or offset printing (for large quantities or sizes larger than 13 x 19).

Brochures can be printed with PMS inks, glossy or matte aqueous coating (AQ) or varnish, gloss UV coating, soft-touch UV coatings, and more.

Best Sizes for Brochures, Flyers, and Sell Sheets

Print brochures can be designed in virtually any size.  Due to the way paper is made, the most economical sizes for brochures are:

  • 4-1/4 x 11
  • 5-1/2 x 8-1/2
  • 6 x 9
  • 8-1/2 x 11
  • 11 x 17

However, brochures are not limited to these conventional sizes. Depending on the brochure’s purpose and end use, they can be designed and sized in many ways. An experienced print supplier like Clear Print can help determine the best size for a given brochure project.

Brochure Folding and Die Cutting

Once printed, brochures and flyers can be folded in many creative ways. Some of the most common folding styles include the half fold, tri-fold or letter fold, accordion fold (also called z-fold), roll fold, gate fold, quarter fold, and parallel fold. A few brochure folding examples are illustrated below.

Brochures can also be die-cut, embossed, or foil stamped to create unique, high-end pieces that stand out.

Brochure die cutting can include cut outs, windows, or unusual shapes, as illustrated below.

Foil stamping adds a metallic foil design to the brochure. The photo below illustrates one example of foil stamping.

Embossing adds a 3-dimensional depth to a brochure by adding a custom shape that is raised up from the surrounding paper. An example of embossing is shown below. Debossing does the opposite—it recesses the design into the paper.

Brochure Design Services Available

Custom brochures can be a compelling medium for advertising, marketing, and branding. They’re not just about providing information; they tell a compelling story. Each page can transport a potential customer into a world of vivid descriptions and attractive visuals. The tactile sensation of paper, rich colors and graphics, a well-crafted text – all these elements work together to create a persuasive narrative that can entice customers and drive sales.

The key to creating a successful brochure lies in following a few important principles:

  1. Clear Messaging: The brochure’s content should be concise, precise, and easy to understand. It should clearly convey what the company offers and why it’s the best choice.
  2. Attractive Design: The brochure should be visually appealing, with a balanced layout, high-quality images, and colors that reflect the brand’s identity. A good layout also takes advantage of the psychology of design and visual perception. Strategic placement of text, graphics, color, and white space can turn a mediocre brochure into a brochure that gets the customer to take action.
  3. Targeted Distribution: The brochures should be distributed strategically, reaching the right audience, in the right place, at the right time.
  4. Consistent Branding: The brochure’s design and content should align with the company’s overall branding strategy, creating a consistent image across all marketing materials.

Done right, brochures can pack a punch. They’re not merely informational tools; they’re storytellers, brand ambassadors, and silent salespeople.

Reviews of Clear Print

Clear Print has been Ronan Engineering’s printer of choice for a while now. The combination of great print results with their incredibly responsive, knowledgeable and helpful staff always amounts to a great experience. I have worked closely with Geoff and Vanessa and am so impressed by their print and design expertise, but also their patience in being willing to work with our overwhelmed marketing department! They’ve done flyers, catalogs, manuals, cleaned up designer messes and more. What I love most about them is their dedication to making sure they get it RIGHT before they go to print…whether it’s spell check or a simple phone call to clarify something. I highly recommend Clear Print.
