Brochures, Flyers & Sell Sheets

Folded Brochures

Folded Brochures

Brochures come in many shapes and sizes and the word “brochure” is often used to describe a wide range of printed material.

– Flyers and Sell Sheets are often called “brochures.” These are single sheets, usually 8-1/2 x 11 size and typically printed on glossy book or cover stock.

– Brochures are also folded leave-behinds. The usual size is 8-1/2 x 11, and can fold down to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 or letter-fold to 3-5/8 x 8-1/2.

– Multi-page booklets are sometimes referred to as “brochures” as well. If the page count is eight or more, it would be usually be saddle stitched (stapled on the spine).

Types of Paper:
Brochures can be printed on any type of paper:

– Glossy or Matte Coated
– Uncoated
– Textured
– Colored
– Specialty stock

Printing & Finishes:
Brochures can be printed in 1-color, 2-color or full-color formats. Depending on the quantity we’ll use digital printing (for small quantities) or print offset (for large quantities or sizes larger than 13 x 19). They can be printed with PMS inks, glossy or matte AQ or varnish, gloss UV, soft-touch UV coatings, etc. Brochures can also be die-cut, embossed or foiled to create a unique, high-end piece.

Your brochure can be designed at virtually any size.  Due to the way paper is made, the most economical sizes are 4-1/4 x 11; 5-1/2 x 8-1/2; 6 x 9; 8-1/2 x 11; 11 x 17, plus a few others.

Carbonless Forms / NCR Forms

Carbonless forms are used to create a copy of a receipt, invoice, bank teller form, delivery slip, service agreement, patient results form, purchase order, IOU slip, etc.

Carbonless forms are also known as NCR forms (No Carbon Required) and are available in 2-part, 3-part, 4-part or 5-part paper. Standard colors are white, canary, pink, goldenrod and green.

The most common sizes for carbonless forms are: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, 8-1/2 x 11 and 8-1/2 x 14. The largest size is 11 x 17 and the smallest is 4-1/4 x 5-1/2.

Typically all copies of a carbonless form have the same image printed on them.  If you want each copy to have different text, make sure to let us know ahead of time. We can also print the back of each carbonless sheet; often disclaimers and contractual notes will be on the backside.

Most carbonless forms are printed in black ink, however we can print in PMS ink as well as full color.

Once your carbonless forms are printed, they are then padded and glued. Each set is then separated and boxed for delivery to you.

Customizing Carbonless Forms:

There are many ways to customize your carbonless form to fit your business’s needs.

1. Crash number / sequential number: Each set gets numbered in red ink, in sequence.

2. Wrap Around Books: We’ll pad 25 or 50 sets of NCR forms together, and create a wrap around cover. Similar to a receipt book, the wrap around cover serves as a barrier between the NCR sheet you are writing on and the rest of the pad.

3. Perforation: Ideal for a Wrap Around Book set-up, here we can print 2-8 forms to a sheet and perforate between each form for easy separating similar to a business check ledger.

4. Shrink Wrapping in sets of 25, 50, 100, or any other increment you need.

No matter what your needs, please call or stop by to discuss your project. Located in Chatsworth, we serve all of the San Fernando Valley, most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, including Burbank, Hollywood, Santa Clarita and more. 818-709-1220 or email

Business Card Printing

Most business cards are 3.5” x 2” in size, with the artwork laid out in a vertical or horizontal format.

The most economical way to print your business card is to pick a paper that’s common: 100lb gloss, matte or linen Cover; 14 pt coated 2-side cover (aka C2S) or 16 pt C2S. In addition to having a common stock, create a design that can print in CMYK to keep your costs down. This way your business card order can be combined with other cards in the shop which keeps everyone’s price down.

However, there’s also an economical way to print custom business cards for your company, provided you’ll need a large quantity (15,000 cards or more over the span of a year). In this case we print masters with 4 or 8 cards laid out on one sheet with all the common information such as company logo and design treatments. If your cards have foil, die cutting or embossing, these treatments are also be applied to the masters. We store these here until an order comes in, at which point we imprint on the personal information (name, phone, email, address, etc.).  Imprints are economical, and the masters are too if purchased in large enough quantity.

Once your cards have been printed we’ll deliver them to you. If you have employees who work out of state or from home, we can ship their cards directly to them.

Creating a Unique Business Card

Business Card with die-cut corners

Die-Cut Business Card

There are many ways to create a unique business card, here are a few options:

1. Choose a PMS ink to make the colors of your card stand out from the rest.  Metallic and fluorescent inks are the most unique, since they cannot be created from CMYK.
2. Emboss or deboss your company logo or other design elements.
3. Foil your company name and/or other design elements.
4. Die-cut your card to create a unique card shape or cutouts within the card.
5. Use a unique stock—colored, textured, pearl or other specialty paper. (We have a wide assortment to show you.)

No matter what your needs, please call or stop by to discus your project. Located in Chatsworth, we serve all of the San Fernando Valley, most of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Valencia and more.

Printing 2014 Calendars

Looking for a company to produce your 2014 Calendar? There are a variety of formats to choose from:

Multi-page Wall Calendar
Single Sheet Wall Calendar
Large Desktop Calendar
Small Desktop Calendar
Pocket Calendar

Below is summary of each.

Multi-Page Wall Calendar

Most Multi-Page Wall Calendars are 8.5” x 5.5”, 11” x 8.5”, 9” x 12” or 12” x 12” in size. They’re usually printed in 24-page or 28-page formats. Once printed, they’re saddle stitched or spiral bound and a small hole is drilled for hanging.

Single Sheet Wall Calendar

Print your calendar as a mini poster. Sizes range from 6” x 18”, 11” x 17”, 24” x 36” or anything in between and are usually printed on one side. We can laminate it so someone can write on it with a dry-erase marker.

Padded Desktop Calendar

Desktop Calendars are large pads that sit on the desktop. Typically they’re 22” x 17” in size and have 12-24 sheets per pad.  They’re available in 2 formats: Printed with blank calendar templates or printed with all months and dates filled in. Two advantages to printing with a blank template are: 1) the same template is used for all sheets, keeping your costs down and 2) your calendar never goes out of date and can be passed out year-round.  Note: The generic calendar has all the 2014/2015 months and dates along the bottom of each sheet for easy reference.

Small Desktop Calendar

These are small, take up less than 7” x 5” of space and come in a variety of formats:

Spiral-bound with 12 sheets (one for each month). They sit upright and the sheets flip over with each new month.

Another option is a single sheet 6.25” x 18” long that folds to 6.25” x 4.5”. These can be hung on the wall in an office or cubicle or folded into a “table tent” to sit on the desk. Despite its small size this calendar shows the full 2014 calendar year.

Pocket Calendars

Pocket calendars are another option. These are often multi-page saddle-stitched booklets and 6.5” x 3.75” in size. They can have as many pages as you’d like, but most common is 24-32. Due to its small size they can easily fit in a purse or briefcase. They make great appointment books to hand out to customers and clients.

Customizing your Calendar

No matter what format you choose you can customize your calendar to fit your needs and company style guide. Each of the above can print in one, two or full-color formats on most any stock: glossy, matte, uncoated, recycled, etc. If you’d like to create an out-of-the box calendar we also offer:

Die-cutting (to any shape you’d like)
Specialty inks, including metallic ink
Spot Aqueous coatings, varnishes or UV coatings
Specialty papers

No matter how easy or complex your calendar is, Clear Print will help.  We have many printed samples to show as well as paper swatches, artwork templates and more.

Printing Holiday Greeting Cards

The holiday season is coming up and now’s the time most companies start planning their Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, New Year’s and other Holiday Greeting Cards.

Printing greeting cards is one of our specialties; in fact we’ve won several awards in the past few years for our cards.

Greeting cards can be done inexpensively or very uniquely with die-cutting, foiling, special inks and other unique effects. No matter the design or budget, we can produce your greeting card.

Most holiday cards are 10 x 7 flat, 5 x 7 folded and can be designed in either a vertical or horizontal format. If you’re looking to hold costs down it’s best to go with a common stock (100lb Gloss Cover, 14pt or 16pt coated 2-side cover).  This way, we can print your card with other cards and keep everyone’s costs down.

Most cards are printed in full color. You have your choice of a Gloss AQ, Matte AQ, High Gloss UV, spot varnish or UV (to accent certain areas) or a combination of Matte & Gloss.

Creating a Unique Greeting Card

We’ve helped customers create very unique, award-winning greeting cards.  Some ways to accomplish this are die-cutting (to create a certain shape), foiling, embossing, debossing, use of custom PMS inks (most common around this time of year are metallic golds, silvers, blues, greens and reds) and printing on specialty stock (pearl, textured, colored, etc.).

No matter how intricate the design, Clear Print is your go-to source for cards done right and on time.

Postcards Printed Cheap

Postcards are one of the most affordable printed items and are available in a wide range of sizes, types of paper and coatings.

The most common stocks are: 100lb Gloss Cover, 14 pt & 15 pt coated 2-side paper (aka C2S). But postcards can be printed on most any stock as long as it meets minimum thickness requirements at the Post Office. We have this info on file.

Since postcards are small, we can fit many on one sheet of paper. Depending on your project, we can print your postcard with other companies’ cards – and by sharing the press sheet, you also share the cost, which brings your price down considerably.

Postcards are most often done in full color. The common coatings for postcards are High Gloss UV on one or two sides, Gloss and Matte AQ Coating on two sides or no coating (if done digitally).  The UV coating is very shiny, but it’s not imprintable if you plan to inkjet your mailing addresses.  However our imprintable Gloss and Matte AQ coatings are perfect for addressing. Often customers will choose a Gloss UV coating for the front, and no coating on the back.  You can also choose a spot UV coating to highlight different photos or design elements on your postcard.

Postcards can even be die-cut into a specific shape.  They can have unique ink colors (metallic silver, gold and fluorescent inks to name a few). They can be flat, folded or even perforated. There are a lot of options.

Some of the most popular postcards sizes are:

4 x 6
4.25 x 6
5 x 7
5.5 x 8.5
6 x 9
6 x 11

For a quote please call, email or click “Request a Quote.”  We have many samples of printed postcards with the various coatings, bindery and ink options available if you’d like to see them.  We’re located in Chatsworth, CA and serve many areas including: Glendale, Burbank, Los Angeles, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Simi Valley and Santa Clarita. We’re open Monday – Friday from 7:30am-5:00pm. Please call 818-709-1220 or email

Raster Images vs. Vector Art—What’s the difference?

Computer graphics can be created as either raster or vector images.  Choosing the right format can make (or break) your design.

Raster Images

Raster Images are bitmaps (a grid of individual pixels that together compose an image). A raster image is a collection of countless tiny squares (aka pixels) that are coded in a specific hue or shade. Together these hues and shades create the most beautiful images. The most common type of raster images are photographs, scanned artwork and detailed artwork.

Shaded Pixel Squares

Shaded Pixel Squares

With raster images you have a set number of pixels in the image. Due to this there’s a limit to how much an image can be enlarged and still look good.  When enlarging a raster image, the number of pixels doesn’t increase, just the space between them. This is why images get blurry.

Raster images are measured in dots-per-inch (dpi). Let’s take an image with a dpi of 600 x 900. Most printers prefer images to print at 300 dpi, thus this particular image would best print at 2” x 3”.  If you enlarged this image to become a poster and printed it at 10” x 15”, it would become blurry and lose its detail since there are now only 60 dots per inch (instead of the 300).

Common raster formats include TIFF, JPEG, GIF, PCX and BMP files.

Vector Art

Vector art is a computer-generated image created with lines, curves, circles, rectangles, etc. Vector art is solely based off mathematical formulas. It’s best used to create line art graphics, logos and fonts.  Vector art is also created with uniform color (no color gradations).

The benefit of vector art is that is can be used at any size. It will look the same if it is printed 1” tall or 400’ tall.  Since it’s based off mathematical formulas it will not loose any of its design detail.

Vector artwork

Vector artwork

Vector art files are very small in size no matter how large the image is printed. Raster images on the other hand vary in size depending on the amount of pixels. The more pixels, the larger the file.

Common vector formats include AI, EPS, CGM, WMF and PICT (Mac).

If you have questions about your artwork please reach out to us. We can tell you what images are best to use, what size you can use them at, help you create (or re-create) artwork, etc.

We’re located in Chatsworth, and serve the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County and parts of Ventura County as well. Feel free to call or email: 818-709-1220 or
